Weekend Getaway to Mahabalipuram

Big Picture Travel presents Expat Getaway Weekends!

Please join us for our first getaway on the 14th through the 16th of September as we explore Mahabalipuram in southern Tamil Nadu.

Mahabalipuram is situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. This quaint seaside town is home to the Ancient Shore Temple, the Ancient Pancha Rathas Temple as well as several UNESCO World Heritage sites made up of ancient stone carvings dating back to the 6th and 7th century.

Beyond sightseeing you can learn to surf the waves at the Mumu Surf Shop. Go shopping for small hand carved stone statues, jewelry, handmade sandals and more. Or just wander along the beach and watch the local fishermen.

We will also take time to visit Auroville and Chennai on our weekend escapade.

This is an opportunity for you to enjoy some time away from the city, sit by the ocean or the pool, pamper yourself and also learn new things and meet new people.

This particular weekend is also one of India’s favorite festivals – Ganesh Chaturthi. We hope to see the villagers come down to the ocean with their large homemade statues of Lord Ganesh and celebrate this most beloved of all Hindu Gods.

All in all we will enjoy the sights and sounds of an ocean side getaway.
