Some Tips & a Message from Jen:
Fellow Expat Travelers – This is an exciting trip for me. I have a special place in my heart for Tamil Nadu and particularly Mahabalipuram. It is one of my favorite places to visit. The possibility of being able to the see the Lord Ganesha Statues makes me even happier. I witnessed this festival on a trip to Mahabs two years ago and it was so much fun to see. In this location the best thing is that there are not mobs of people as there are in places like Mumbai and other locations where you might have seen this festival celebrated. In this location there is just a long happy line of villagers bringing their giant, amazing, uniquely handmade statues down to the water. They will gather in their own small groups, say their puja and then release the statues to the ocean. Honestly it is a sight to see.
Please note- as this is India, things happen as per the villagers schedules and though we can be nearly positive that the statues will arrive to the shores of the Bay of Bengal on the 14th and 15th, we can not be 100% certain. Please keep that in mind. The rest of the trip will be so beautiful, fun and relaxing that the Ganesh Statues will simply be icing on our travel cake!
I sincerely look forward to traveling with you! Please keep checking back for more Expat Journeys!
